RVing In The Cold?

Heading out in your RV during the chilly season?

Here are some tips to keep you and safe while RVing in cold weather:

1. Insulation

Insulate like your comfort depends on it (because it does!) Wrap hoses and pipes with heat tape and foam, keep window coverings down, and seal any drafty spots.

2. Stuffing The Cracks

Think of your RV as a cacoon – stuffing pool noodles, towels, or blankets in your slide-out gaps can make a huge difference.

3. Top Em Off

Keep propane tanks full and check them regularly. Winter camping will burn through propane faster than marshmallows at a summer fire! Carry a backup tank and install a carbon monoxide detector if you haven’t already.

4. Water Management

Empty tanks when temperatures drop below freezing. Nothing ruins a winter camping trip like a frozen pipe. Consider keeping extra freshwater (water bottles) inside and using a heated water hose.

5. Let There Be Light

Power outages happen, bring backup power.  Generators or solar panels, and extra batteries can be a life saver. Winter storms can be unpredictable, don’t get caught in the dark and cold.

Always check weather forecasts and road conditions before heading out. Keep emergency supplies on hand (warm clothes, food, flashlights, first aid kit) and have a backup plan. Being prepared means you can keep you relaxed helping you enjoy those beautiful winter views!
